Amid the intensifying global race for AI computing power, memory chips are rapidly moving from a supporting role to the very core of the semiconductor value chain. Over the past year, shares of South Korean semiconductor leader SK Hynix (000660.KS) have surged by approximately 311%, making it one of the best-performing semiconductor stocks in Asia and widely regarded as one of the most certain beneficiaries of the AI boom.
Unlike U.S. semiconductor giants such as NVIDIA and TSMC, SK Hynix is listed exclusively in South Korea. However, its leading position in high-bandwidth memory (HBM) has made it an indispensable supplier for global AI servers and high-end computing chips.
From a fundamentals perspective, SK Hynix’s rally is driven not merely by valuation expansion but by tangible earnings growth. The company reported full-year 2025 revenue of KRW 97.15 trillion, representing a 46.8% year-on-year increase, standing out within the global semiconductor industry.
Market consensus holds that the extreme demands for computing density and bandwidth driven by large-scale AI model training and inference have turned HBM into a standard component for high-end GPUs and AI accelerator cards. SK Hynix sits squarely at the center of this critical technology trajectory.
On the technology front, SK Hynix’s competitive edge has become increasingly clear. Data shows that the company accounted for approximately 60% of the global HBM market last year, firmly ranking first worldwide. More importantly, market sources indicate that for its next-generation HBM4 products, SK Hynix has secured over two-thirds of NVIDIA’s orders, with its supply share approaching 70%.
This deep strategic alignment not only provides strong order visibility over the coming years, but also further solidifies SK Hynix’s position within the global AI computing ecosystem. As AI chips evolve toward ever higher performance and power consumption, the technical barriers and customer stickiness of HBM are rising in tandem.
