    Dormant Account

1.What is a Dormant Account (Inactive Account)?

A dormant account refers to a securities account that has had no client-initiated activity for two consecutive calendar years and is consequently designated as being in a “dormant status”. The primary purpose is to enhance account security and to comply with the regulatory requirements of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC).

    2.Functional Restrictions of Dormant Accounts

Trading rights frozen: All trading activities are prohibited, including but not limited to buying/selling of stocks, subscription of new shares, subscription/redemption of funds, margin trading, and securities borrowing/lending.
Restrictions on fund and asset operations: No fund deposits/withdrawals or stock deposits/withdrawals are permitted.

    3.Account Activation Method

You may reactivate your account via the uSMART App: go to Me at the bottom right → Activate Dormant Account, and follow the on-screen instructions.

    4. Can a dormant account receive dividends and process corporate actions?

Yes. Dividends and other entitlements will be credited to your account automatically, but cannot be withdrawn or utilised until the account is fully activated.

    5. When will trading be restored after activation?

If no identity information update is required, full trading access will be restored immediately after activation.
